  • Data collection arrangements

    Sample consent:
Consent taken at Tissue Collection Centres by local research teams. A copy of the consent form is kept at site by the research team, one is inserted into patient notes, one is given to the patient, and one sent to the Biobank Manager.

Sample collection: fresh samples are collected by local research teams and sent by first class post to the Biobanking laboratory where they are processed for long term viable storage (liquid nitrogen). Fixed tissues are collected locally and transferred to Histopathology (below) for further processing (if required) and storage.

    Sample storage :
LymphomaBio, MDSBio, MyelomaBio, NormalBio: bone marrow aspirates, blood, skin/ hair/ nail clippings/ saliva : MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, University of Oxford.

  • Research programme

HaemBio Biobank supports research programmes into blood cancers. This research should be aimed to develop a better understanding of the disease pathogenesis, to develop new tests with which to diagnose and monitor diseases, and develop new ways to prevent, treat and cure diseases. It will support research that is funded by the following: competitive grants awarded through independent scientific peer review, University of Oxford/ Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust strategic research programmes that are funded by peer reviewed grants; and grants from commercial companies. This ensures the work is of high scientific and clinical value and will be a requirement for distribution of samples. The scientific merit of a proposal will be independently established. The role of the HaemBio Governance Committee will be to judge if the application is in scope, is feasible (i.e. the Biobank has sufficient samples of the right type) and does not compete with existing studies where samples have been allocated.
