Data collection arrangements
A wide variety of human biological samples (HBS) and associated relevant data (clinical and demographic) are needed by GSK and GSK collaborators for research purposes in order to develop and validate new targets for treatment and new drugs.
Such samples may be sourced from healthy volunteers as well as patients with defined diseases. The HBS may include samples from planned medical procedures (surgical waste, birth ), post mortem sources, and diagnostic remnant specimens or from defined interventional collections (e.g. blood draw).
Samples will either be sourced by 3rd Parties or will be sourced directly by GSK in collaboration NHS Trusts.
All samples will have been collected with appropriate donor consent allowing research use and confidentiality of the donor will be maintained through sample coding or anonymisation. The key codes will not be available to those
performing the researchResearch programme
The bank intends to support a wide variety of research programs within GSK and in collaboration with external researchers. A range of analytical procedures employing human biological samples are performed on a routine basis at GSK to identify and validate biological targets for subsequent discovery and development of novel pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical interventions. Therapeutic areas being addressed include but are not limited to respiratory, inflammatory and neurological diseases, and biopharmaceutical studies involving a broader range of therapeutic areas.
