This study will explore the experiences of inpatients on an acute mental health unit as they engage in therapeutic and activity groups. The study is needed as there is very little qualitative research on this subject.Participants will be interviewed once in the therapy dept of mental health acute inpatient hospital and the data collection will take place over the course of 2 to 3 weeks. The researcher will examine the data provided in relation to individuals thoughts, experiences and feelings evoked through participation in the structured activities provided, and will aim to ascertain what impact the patients consider this has on their overall recovery.Ultimately it is hoped that this study will contribute to the future development and delivery of patient centred group programs in acute psychiatric practice .It may also support /contribute to further studies in this area.
