Research summary
Gambling Disorder is relatively understudied in comparison to other addictions and so an evidence-based treatment for gambling addiction has yet to be established. Within the literature there are promising outcomes for cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), however, it is difficult to draw strong conclusions due to a lack of high quality research.
This research aims to generate outcomes that will help overcome some of the gaps and inconsistencies within the literature, through use of the single-case experimental design method. Patients accessing a group CBT programme at the Northern Gambling Clinic will be monitored through baseline, treatment and follow up, using a mixture of self-report questionnaires and qualitative interviews with service-users. The research will answer the following questions:
a) What does recovery look like for problem gamblers?
b) How effective is a group CBT programme in reducing problem gambling?
c) What aspects of the programme helpful/unhelpful for recovery and why is this?REC name
