Research summary
Older people are more likely to have strokes and become disabled as a result. They are also very likely to be frail. Frailty as a concept is increasingly being studied and the relationship between frailty and major illnesses is being researched. Frailty can be considered to be a state of vulnerability to adverse outcomes. There is little information about the interaction of frailty and stroke and the effect of frailty on stroke prognosis has not been studied. In this prospective feasibility study, grip strength and other measures of frailty in older stroke patients will be obtained in order to study the association of frailty with stroke outcomes and ability to make progress with rehabilitation.
