Research summary
This study aims to develop a course of Alexander Technique (AT) lessons to be delivered in a mixed group/individual format for back, neck, hip and knee sufferers. AT lessons aim to improve the self-management of posture, coordination and body use and can help chronic pain. Chronic pain in the back, neck, hip or knee are the commonest causes of chronic pain and result in poor quality of life. Many people also suffer pain at more than one site, which further decreases quality of life. There is some trial evidence for 1:1 AT lessons for back pain and recent studies also suggest it may help neck, hip and knee pain.As such we are building on previously feasability work (GREAT) which developed a course for back pain and further develop this for other types of muscoloskeletal pain.
