Research summary
This project will explore the experiences of global majority inpatients in a high secure forensic service. Semi-structured interviews will be conducted with a sample of global majority patients who are currently in a high secure forensic ward with the hope to gain insight into their experiences of the forensic system in relation to their social identity and ethnicity. The aim of these interviews is to explore how these patients understand their mental health difficulties in relation to their social and ethnic identity, or if and how this is considered by staff in their treatment plans and care. The interviews will also aim to explore global majority patients experiences of perceived threat within the system, based on their social identity, and how they respond to it.
Aims
1) To explore how social and ethnic identity influences global majority inpatients understanding of their difficulties/mental health
2) To explore how high secure global majority inpatients perceive if/how their social/ethnic identity is considered by staff in their treatment plans/care received from services
3) To explore if they have experienced perceived threat within the system, based on their social identity, and how they respond to it.REC name
