Research summary
Cytomegalovirus infection continues to be one of the most common infections after solid organ transplantation despite recent advances in clinical management, it affects between 8.1-20.5% of transplant recipients. It is not known if the transplant recipient’s genes predispose or protect against infection. Discovery of genes that influence the risk of CMV infection could help identify mechanisms for increased susceptibility to virus infection and define groups of patients for early antiviral therapy.
