Research summary
This study is designed to assess the long term visual functions including contrast sensitivity (CS) on a large scale in patients who have keratoconus (KC), a condition that leads to progressive protrusion of the cornea.
The study is non-interventional and is limited to working with data collected as part the routine clinical assessment of patients affected by this condition.
It has previously been suggested that the contrast sensitivity improves following corneal transplants for Keratoconus , however, no previous study has compared the changes in CS using different modalities for treating keratoconus. Changes in corneal structure and ultrastructure and its correlation to the visual functional changes following the different interventional treatment modalities have not been studied and compared.
This study aims at investigating and comparing the changes in visual function and corneal morphology using different clinical interventions to treat KC patients. The study does not change the clinical course or decision about treatment of the affected patients. It is aimed at analysing visual function and corneal morphology in the patient group.REC name
