Research summary
Summary of Results
: We were able to detect several different ctDNA mutations in patients with lung cancer and follow them during treatment. We discovered that clinical factors appear to play a more important role than sample processing in ctDNA detection. ctDNA was more readily detected in patients with cancer outside the chest and brain e.g. in other organs like the liver disease. Circulating tumour DNA was also more readily detectable in patients whose cancer was growing when the blood sample was taken. We have concluded that sample timing and patient selection may be crucial to the most efficient application of this technology to clinical practice.
