Research summary
We are currently investigating the optimal agent used in the intensive care unit to maintain blood pressure in patients following free tissue transfer. The current trial involves investigation of four blood pressure elevating drugs (which are commonly used in the intensive care unit) with regard to tissue perfusion of tissue that has been transferred by microsurgical procedures to the head and neck following cancer resection. This application relates to an extension of this work, using the optimal drug identified in the above stage, and comparing it to a further drug, which is often used during the operation.
