Research summary
The prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in women of reproductive age continues to rise, with 15% of patients less than 50 years old. Moreover, more patients are seeking fertility.
FERN study is a 2 year multi-centre observational cohort study which aims to investigate how CKD affects the reproductive system, ovarian reserve and inflammatory markers using transvaginal ultrasound and blood markers.
It also aims to explore the relationship between fertility hormonal centiles and dialysis dosing in women with end-stage kidney disease. Furthermore we aim to understand how fertility impacts quality of life for women with chronic kidney disease.
Females with CKD will be recruited from different teaching hospital across the UK. Controls will be recruited from King's Fertility. Participants will undergo a series of blood tests and transvaginal ultrasound scans.
