Research summary
This piece of research focuses on the Primrose Service for female personality disordered offenders. This unique service forms the top tier of the Offender Personality Disorder Strategy for Women and was originally introduced in 2006 as the only female component of the Dangerous and Severe Personality Disorder (DSPD) initiative. The service has twelve places for female offenders who present with a high-risk of future offending and severe personality disorder. There has, to date, been over forty women assessed by the Primrose Service and there is an existing dataset recording various data including personality disorder diagnoses, risk and personality disorder profiles. To date this data set has not been used for research purposes and participants have not been approached to invite them to consent for data to be used for research purposes. There is a noteworthy lack of literature exploring this particularly unique population and this research seeks to elucidate this area. This project aims to provide descriptive analysis of the clinical and risk characteristics of women admitted to the Primrose Service for assessment since its introduction in 2006. It will also examine patterns of risk, personality disorder, psychopathy and cognitive functioning of women assessed for the service. Differences between the characteristics of participants who remained in the service and those who did not will also be explored. Whether there have been changes in risk domains over time will also be analysed.
