Research summary
This is a biomarker discovery project. We are hoping to develop a test (biomarker) to predict which patient might not respond well to a particular antibody treatment, thereby allowing clinicians to choose an alternative therapy. We aim to stain for the presence of various Fc receptors (cell surface immune system proteins) found on the lymphoma cancer cells & associated macrophages (an immune system cell type). We will assess their impact on the clinical outcomes of patients treated with an antibody drug (rituximab) within a clinical trial that has already completed. The data will then be used to build a mathematical model to predict response and prognosis.
This study may lead to a staining test to better predict prognosis and potentially improve selection of different types of antibody treatments for individual patients.REC name
