  • Research summary

Aggression towards healthcare professionals has received increasing attention in the literature and press over the last decade (McLaughlin, 2010). Its prevention and management is important in providing safe and effective therapeutic environment in acute settings and a better professional relationship between patient and staff.

    Research Questions:
-What are the factors that lead to or are associated with aggressive behaviour of inpatients in acute psychiatric ward as seen by both healthcare professionals and patients themselves?
-Are these factors linked to treatment?
This research would be undertaken at Queen Mary’s Hospital in an acute female psychiatric ward. Participants would be patients between 18-74yrs involved in aggressive behaviour and health care professionals who were involved in any way.The limit of 74yrs is just because patients admitted to recruitment hospital happens to have that age limit to the admission ward.
