  • Research summary

This study will investigate potential cellular and molecular mediators of human skin wound healing. It builds upon extensive in vitro and animal model studies. We will use human skin that would otherwise be discarded from consenting patients undergoing reconstructive surgery. Key areas to be investigated are: regulation of skin stem cell biology, epidermal adhesion and migration, skin microbiota and extracellular matrix remodelling. Each of these areas is supported by strong preliminary data. Studies will ultimately help to identify potential new molecular and cellular targets to aid development of treatments for pathological wounds.
