  • Research summary

In the proposed study, we would like to examine whether eye movements can be used as a tool to assess the skill of laparoscopic surgeons. To this end, we would like to ask people with different degrees of experience in minimally invasive surgery (consultant surgeons and trainees of various levels) to (1) watch recordings of minimally invasive surgery and (2) to perform a series of tasks with a laparoscopic simulator while measuring their eye movements with an eye tracking device. The eye movement data will be analysed for aspects (eg the number of eye movements and the distance covered by the eye movements) that may reveal the skill of surgeons.
