  • Research summary

The aim of the study is to explore the views and experience of healthcare professionals working in clinical research who have been redeployed to frontline clinical services to assist with the COVID-19 efforts.\n\nA literature search has yielded only one study which looked at re-deployment of emergency workforce during the H1N1 pandemic in Australia (Cosidine et al, 2009), information was gathered through surveys and focussed on absenteeism and sickness. The limited evidence-base is quantitative and there is no in-depth exploration of the views and experiences of redeployment of clinical staff let alone those working in a research capacity. The proposed study will therefore focus on the research workforce to better understand their experience of redeployment and its impact on clinically trained research staff.\n\nWe will recruit 15 health professionals working with research using purposive sampling method.Study participants will take part in a single one-off semi-structured interview. These interviews will then be transcribed verbatim prior to being analysed following a thematic analysis framework as recommended by Braun and Clark (2006).\n\nThe study objectives are:\n\n1.\tTo explore how the redeployment process was managed from the perspectives of healthcare professionals working in research.\n2.\tTo understand their preparedness from a training and emotional perspective for the transition. \n3.\tTo explore the perceived readiness of the clinical services to accommodate these healthcare professionals within their team.\n4.\tTo explore how the redeployment process can be enhance in the future.\n
