  • Research summary

For over a decade, health systems have emphasized the importance of compassionate care both on patient outcomes
as well as staff satisfaction. Despite the numerous reports/statements and whitepapers stating the overwhelming
consensus that compassion should form a core value of healthcare delivery, there remains a failure within the system
to deliver compassionate care with consistency across different care settings. (van der Cingel, M., 2011) COVID 19 has also thrown many care homes into rapidly deploying new technologies into the care environment without evaluation of the impact of those technologies on the delivery of compassionate care. The aim of the proposed research is to begin to inform the design process for digital health tools to incorporate compassionate care and in particular the needs of care homes. We aim to accomplish this via use of qualitative methods , using semi-structured interviews (n=24) with care home staff, residents, and family members in three care homes. Participants will be recruited in the three care homes included in the study. This research is funded by the ESRC.
