Research summary
Speech and language therapists (SLTs) have long been encouraged to work in an holistic, client-centred way. However, to date very little heed has been paid to the spiritual needs of SLT clients, despite spiritual and emotional care of patients being quite high at present on the healthcare agenda.
I intend to explore how people with aphasia (language difficulties after stroke) communicate their spiritual needs, by interviewing individuals with both acute and more chronic aphasia.
I also intend to interview members of the multidisciplinary stroke team, in order to explore their opinions about their role in facilitating spiritual expression in patients with aphasia.REC name
