Research summary
This study aims to gain an understanding of first time mothers' experience of inpatient postnatal care overnight in the immediate postnatal period when their partners are encouraged to go home; leaving women to care for themselves and their baby/babies on their own with assistance from postnatal ward staff – a phenomenon that has not yet been fully explored in the research literature. This study aims: to explore whether women’s experience of overnight postnatal care met their expectations; to explore women’s experience of being a single parent overnight; to explore and understand what the women themselves want from their postnatal care. This study ultimately aims to inform and improve practice.
Data will be collected using face-to-face interviews with women.
