    The research investigates perceptions and experience of being coached as an emotional support service at the Fountain Centre (Royal Surrey Hospital). Coaching provided patients with an emotional support service, providing a unique service alongside counselling, at any stage of their cancer. \n \nExploring patients’ expectations and perceptions of coaching of the service provided by the Fountain Centre as the basis for standardization of coaching as an emotional support service within the NHS. In addition, providing validation for coaching standards in cancer-related coaching through end-user insights. \n\nPatients living with cancer across all stage of the cancer, e.g. treatment, post-treatment, remission, and who have used the Fountain Centre coaching service or a different coaching service provider. Additionally, coaches at the Fountain Centre will also be asked to participate in the validation method (Focus Group). \n\nThe research will take place online predominately due to Covid-19. However, in person session at the Fountain Cenre may take place, if government and hospital guidance confirms such activities.\n\nThe research will be conducted over a two-year period, in conjunction with a PhD at the University of Portsmouth, with two separate research activities. Firstly, a set of semi-structured interviews with clients who have received Fountain Centre Coaching will explore experience and perception of coaching as an emotional support service. Secondly, a set of focus groups will ask both coaching clients and coaches to evaluate the coaching standards and explore their collective experiences of coaching at the Fountain Centre. \n
