Research summary
Background
Following the COVID-19 pandemic there was an increase in the use of remote methods to deliver health care, such as the use of video calls, which included neuropsychological assessments. Neuropsychological assessments ask an individual to complete different tasks and/or answer questions to help understand how an individual’s brain is working. There is research on neuropsychological assessments being completed via remote methods, such as video or phone as a suitable option to collect information. However, more research is needed in a 'post-pandemic world', where factors such as access to technology have changed and both methods of delivery may be possible.
Aims
To explore the experience of neuropsychological assessment for clinicians, and service-users of NHS Highland Neuropsychology Department in a ‘post-pandemic world'. The research also aims to explore factors that may influence the experience of remote neuropsychology assessments, for clinicians, and service users.
Methods
Clinical Psychologists, upon receiving information about the research study, will participate by completing a questionnaire on service users who underwent neuropsychological assessments, utilizing remote and/or face-to-face methods. Service users with completed neuropsychological assessments will be invited to join the study, and upon agreement, consent will be obtained using a 'Consent to Contact' form. The information sheet and questionnaire will be delivered based on the participant's preferred method, whether it be through a phone call, post, or email. During phone calls, the Trainee Clinical Psychologist, assisted by an Assistant Psychologist, will review the information sheet and inquire about the individual's interest in participation. Upon securing consent, the Trainee or Assistant will guide the individual through the questionnaire.
Practical Applications
This research aims to add to the knowledge about remote neuropsychological assessments in a ‘post-pandemic world’. This study will provide information on factors that can help clinicians and service users make decisions to meet individual needs when considering completing a neuropsychological assessment.REC name
