  • Research summary

The aim of the research is to explore mother’s perception of their experiences of the intervention provided as part of a 5 week infant massage programme delivered by an Independent Provider in the South East of England to ascertain if the experience has helped them become more attached to their infants thus improving their relationship with their babies. The researcher proposes to gather data from semi-structured interviews with mothers that have completed the programme. The data will be collected using semi-structured, one-one interviews at a venue of the mother’s choice; for example, a private room at the health centre. The lone worker policy will be adhered to for example making people aware of where the researcher is going and what time she is planning to return to base. The researcher has experience of working in this environment.
The government supports early intervention programmes with the aim to be more pro-active than reactive. The literature examined supports the benefits of infant massage and it is hoped that through the study we can further support this and it will allow the intervention to be ready available for all mothers and infants.
