Research summary
This study will map the experience of health professionals in women's secure care. It will consider their personal and professional development and the impact of interpersonal assumptions and dynamics on the care that is delivered, through consideration of one specific "challenging" incident.
The women's secure care population has complex demography, as significant proportions are drawn from community mental health services or are detained solely because of the risk that they pose to themselves, contrary to expectations in, for example, the men's secure estate. In addition, the commissioning of secure care for women is split between public and private sectors.
A sample of 6-10 health professionals with experience of working in women's secure care will be interviewed either face-to-face or by telephone. They will be selected to represent a variety of professional backgrounds with a spread of gender and length of professional experience.
