Research summary
The MSc in Rheumatology Nursing was established in 1999 in response to rheumatology nurses wanting to undertake a postgraduate course to support the clinical developments of the nurse specialist role. The course is run on a modular basis over 2 years and focuses on clinical effectiveness and research skills, clinical practice such as musculoskeletal examination and patient education and professional development including clinical leadership. Since the course commenced there have been 48 master's graduates, 34 diplomats and 6 students awarded a postgraduate certificate. The intended outcomes of conducting this research are to gain a more indepth understanding of the perceived experiences and impact of undertaking a Master's in rheumatology nursing. Whilst also understanding how advanced rheumatology nursing has developed to inform faculty regarding the course and its future deevlopment. The research will involve interviewing 8-12 nurses who have completed the MSc in rheumatology nursing within the last 10 years
