  • Research summary

COVID 19 has been declared as a global pandemic. Clinical practice has identified specific issues related to the experience of COVID-19 among older adults living with frailty. This study will capture the experience of older patients who have had COVID 19, their families / carers and staff who worked with COVID-19 and is expected to add to the current evidence being generated in this area. Phenomenology will be used to obtain rich data from in-depth interviews with patients, families/carers and HCPs. Purposive sampling will ensure that patients, families/carers and HCPs with appropriate experience of the subject area are recruited. The interviews will be conducted by telephone by two researchers experienced in qualitative methods. All interviews will be fully transcribed for data analysis whereby in-depth interpretations will be developed into a narrative interwoven with the experiences of individual participants. \nCapturing the lived experience of older adults, relatives/carers and HCPs during such a crisis within health and social care will determine the specific needs of this group. This will add to the developing evidence base, providing information of use to future research and planning of services. \n
