Research summary
The study will aim to explore first-time expectant mothers’ expectations of feeding their infant at birth and their actual experiences in the immediate postnatal period.
Paired couples will be interviewed in the antenatal period, in order to discuss their expectations, which will then be mapped onto their actual experiences of infant feeding methods during a postnatal visit within the first 6 weeks postpartum. Other factors influencing a mothers success at achieving her desired outcome of infant feeding will also be explored, for example the role of the partner, maternal-fetal attachment, and support from important others.REC name
