Research summary
BLMK ICB has been awarded funding through the Digitising Social Care (DHSC/NHSE) Adult Care Technology Fund to implement two AI based technologies (Robotpets and PainChek) to support adults in receipt of social care across BLMK. This is called 'Enhancing Wellbeing Through Digital Programme'. The University of Hertfordshire (UH) is the evaluation partner for this project.
The evaluation aims to understand the acceptability, usability, cost-effectiveness and impacts of PainChek and Robopets as implemented and adopted in BLMK care homes and as part of the domiciliary care offer, to inform the development of an evidence-based plan for scale and spread across BLMK ICS.
The objectives of the evaluation are:1. To understand the technology implementation processes and outcomes, including adoption, acceptability, usability, and sustainability of PainChek and Robopets;
2. To assess the effectiveness of the technologies against the intended benefits, including outcomes for those receiving the intervention, their families and staff involved in their care;
3. To estimate the resource use and cost changes associated with the adoption of the implemented technologies.This is a mixed methods study comprising rapid evidence review, document review, stakeholder workshops, qualitative research, and quantitative and cost consequence analysis to evaluate the impact of introducing technologies (Robopet & PainChek) in different adult social care settings to support older people and their carers.
The study will be conducted in 2 Phases These work packages will be conducted in a phased manner. Phase 1 of the study will be a service evaluation focus on measuring resource use changes associated with the implementation of both technologies. Phase 2 will focus on the collection of care related quality of life and qualitative data outlined in EWP2 of the protocol. Ethical approvals are being sought from University of Hertfordshire for Phase 1. THIS APPLICATION IS ONLY FOR PHASE 2.
