Research summary
200 patients admitted into the hospita and diagnosed with MRSA having been commenced on Bactroban nasal ointment will be recruited into the study. When they have completed their treatment, a urine sample will be taken to assess objectively their adherence and a questionnaire will be completed by the patient to obtain subjective data with adherence. Nasal swabs will be taken from the patients 2 weeks after treatment, then 1,2,3,4 and 6 months later to assess decolonisation and relapse rate. A selection of patients will be interviewed after 6 months to review comments to the questionnaire.
