Research summary
The National Radiotherapy Implementation Group Report Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy Guidelines for Commissioners, Providers and Clinicians in England (NRIG) 2011 guidelines specified that there was not enough evidence available to ascertain how much movement there was within organs during treatment delivery with Stereotactic Radiotheapy.
This project would involve a retrospective analysis of intrafractional motion in 70 patients who underwent extracranial radiosurgery with the CyberKnife system at our institution. The purpose of this research was to determine how much movement there was within common sites treated stereotactically with the CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery System such as lung, prostate, pancreas, liver and spine. This data could provide information which might have significant implications regarding increasing or decreasing treatment margins at a local and national level if doses were to be increased and treatment courses reduced.
