• Research summary

  This is a multicentre, prospective, single-arm comparison of ß-hydroxybutyrate levels in capillary versus venous blood. Capillary and venous blood samples will be collected concurrently from participants either in DKA or ketosis.

  For each participant, up to 4 capillary and venous paired samples are to be collected, no more frequently than every hour during their hospital admission. Only samples that can be paired will be collected for this study.

  Samples will be centrifuged, and the plasma returned to Abbott Diabetes Care, for ketone level analysis on the reference analyser.
