Research summary
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a common condition resulting due to impairment of kidney functions. The disease is usually silent and progressive. It has a prevalence of 13-14 % in UK population (Health Survey of England 2009). Early recognition of CKD would enable the initiation of the preventive measures that slow the progression of the condition. Serum creatinine (Cr) measurement has been a part of the NHS health check. POC testing for Cr could facilitate early diagnosis of CKD via screening programmes. We propose to evaluate the POC Cr measurements by testing whole blood Cr in individuals with varying levels and comparing with their laboratory measurements. We aim to recruit:
1. 200 patients with CKD (stages 1-5)
2. 100 post kidney transplant patients
3. Screening in high risk patients ( DM, hypertension)- 100 patients
4. 100 patients with amyloidosis with varying creatinine levels.REC name
