  • Research summary

Rocket Science, and independent research and evaluation company, has been commissioned by the Royal College of Occupational Therapy (RCOT) to evaluate the impact of Occupational Therapy (OT) in primary care for older (over 65) patients. The findings are intended to support ROT in future workforce planning and development.

As a part of the evaluation we are seeking to interview people who have received OT as part of their primary care in five GP practices across England, Wales and Scotland. Patients over the age of 65 will be recruited to the evaluation via the practices and will be interviewed either virtually, over the telephone or where practical to do so in person.

Patients who agreed to take part will be asked about their experience of OT care and the impact that this has had upon their health. We are seeking to interview 10 patients in each of the five sites (50 in total) and participants will be compensated for their time and the National Institute for Health Research recommended rate.

Interviews are being used to complement elements of research which do not require REC approval including, analysis of the aggregated data from GP practices which will explore the volume, frequency and outcomes of OT in primary care and interviews with OTs and other primary care staff.
