Research summary
The ESSTEAM study looks at the way clinical staff are trained to treat patients with asthma. A new way of training emergency department staff with very realistic patient simulators is to be assessed. This study aims to see if staff receiving the new training method take skills learned in training into their clinical practice. Learning outcomes will be assessed before and after the training intervention. Following the training intervention, patients attending emergency departments at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals will be asked to participate in the study. Study participants will have their medical records reviewed and be sent a questionnaire regarding the care they recieved in the emergency department. Patients aged over 18 years with mild or moderate asthma will be potenital participants in the study. This information will allow us to train doctors more effectively in the future.
