Research summary
This pilot study aims to asses the level of Speech and Language (SALT) needs among older adults with functional mental illness and older adults with cognitive problems. This study will recruit 15 older adults with functional mental illness and 15 older adults with cognitive impairment, under the care of a Community Mental Health Team for Older People (CMHTOP). Each study participant will undergo a Standardised Mini-Mental State Examination (SMMSE) and a full SALT assessment carried out by two senior Speech and Language Therapists (SALTs) with expertise in communication difficulties in mental health disorders. This study will take place over the course of one week.
