    This project is aimed to evaluate the changes due to the introduction of a new regime in the Cygnet Maidstone ward for women with borderline personality disorder (BPD). This regime will include focus on Shared Decision Making between service users and providers concerning the planned transition to the community to include move to voluntary admission status, participation in individual and group Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Skills Learning, and enhancing the degree of self-responsibility taken by the women.
    The desired change will be reflected in: Reduced critical incidents, reduced need for major tranquilization, increased ability to undertake unsupervised visits outside the ward, and in active participation in planning the transition to living in the community.
    C.Methodology and Methods of Evaluation
    c.1. A mixed methods of qualitative and quantitative measures will be applied at 3 months, at 7 months, and at 12 months.
    c.2. Qualitative interviews following training in photo elicitation, the participants will be asked to take relevant photos to be focused upon in the interviews at 3 months, at 7 months, and at 12 months.
    c.3. Reports at each point in time on the progress of DBT, skills attainment, medication management changes (inclusive of application of SDM), and transition plans (inclusive of application of SDM).
    c.4. Implementing shared decision-making process: reports by the person and by the keyworker of decisions made and implemented, degree of participation, degree of mutual respect and trust

    Quantitative evaluation:
    Demographic data (per pseudonym); number of critical incidents per person measured after month 3, month 7, month 12, number of major tranquilizations, visits outside the ward, participation in community meetings, medication changes, degree of acquisition of skills, time chart of transition plan per transition goals.
    Data analysis: Thematic Analysis for qualitative data, descriptive statistics for quantitative data.
