Research summary
The project aims to evaluate the nurse led advisory service as it is currently experienced by all key stakeholders and then implement improvements through action cycles based on the findings of the evaluation. It will involve 2 phases, in phase 1 a stakeholder evaluation will be undertaken involving 4 different stakeholder groups: patients/service users;primary care team and managers;secondary care multi disciplinary team; and the specialist nurse team themselves.
The second phase will involve a number of action cycles guided by an action research approach (Grundy 1982) and using a practice development approach to address the issues emerging from the stakeholder evaluation phase. A small reference group of stakeholders will be established to provide independent ongoing support and critique to the project team.
The project leader and team members will be supported in developing skills in this research and practice development by an academic research and practice development facilitator through ten two hour monthly active learning sets with the nurse-led team.
