Research summary
Antibiotic resistance is an increasing global threat but little is known about the patterns of antibiotic resistance across Europe in people living with chronic infectious lung diseases like cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis. In this project, we will compare the results of testing done on samples of fluid or spit from the lung taken in different hospitals across Europe. We will compare the types and rates of certain bugs found in the lung and the antibiotic resistance of those bugs. Where certain data is available, we will also compare how antibiotic usage rates are associated with patterns of antibiotic resistance.
