Research summary
Leukaemia is a blood cancer which is a cause of mortality of a large number of people worldwide. New therapeutic strategies are required in this case. We aim to conduct basic research in order to discover how cancerous blood cells escape host immune defense. For this purpose we will investigate the effects of protein factors derived from cancerous human cells on so called NK cells which are capable of killing leukaemia cells naturally. This will allow us to understand how we can biochemically activate the host immune system to defend the human organism against progression of blood cancer.
