Research summary
This pilot study had been designed to assess the effectiveness of a herbal medicine Vitano© (rhodiola rosea L.) in reducing stress. Healthy subjects aged between 18 and 35 years will be enrolled into the study. The study will take place at one centre in the UK. Subjects who consent to take part will attend for 2 screening visits when their eligibility will be confirmed. Subjects who continue to be eligible will be asked to return for a baseline visit (Day 0) and they will be randomised to take the herbal medication or be in the control group which has no treatment. The treatment is open, so the subjects will know which treatment group they are in. The subjects will return for visits on Day 7 and Day 14. On Days 0, 7 and 14 the subjects will give saliva samples before during and after assessments. Subjects will undergo psychometric tests and blood pressure and heart rate will be assessed before, during and after the tests. Subjects will also be asked to complete questionnaires.
