  • Research summary

There is an increased need over the last 10 years for inpatient psychiatric treatment for young people with eating disorders but there is little understanding about why this is ocuring.
The aim of this study is to gather information from interviews with young people and their families which explores the reasons why they were referred for inpatient treatment for their eating disorder. This will create recommendations for future research and interventions designed to reduce admission rates.
Young people between the ages of 12-18 years, and their families, who have been referred for inpatient eating disorder treatment will be eligible to participate in this study. The interviews will be with the young person and separately with the family. The information from these interviews will help us understand the reasons why inpatient referral was needed and how they family and young person felt about this. This will help improve our service and the information will be published to help other services improve.
