  • Research summary

Effective leaders can foster change and innovation in teams and organizations. In mental health services it is associated with better staff work attitudes and organizational commitment, improved working alliance, employee attitudes toward evidence-based practice, and client level outcomes including satisfaction with services and quality of life. This is consistent with findings that management support for implementation is a significant and strong predictor of positive implementation climate and subsequent implementation outcomes.
The main aim of this study which comes under ECLIPSE (Enhancing Cognition and quality of LIfe in the early PSychosEs) umbrella is to evaluate whether a leadership style that supports evidence-based practice affects team climate and subsequent staff attitudes and treatment fidelity.
The data will be collected as an online survey from staff members across ten UK sites (Early Intervention services), which will also take part in the cognitive-remediation trial (main ECLIPSE study). These data will be supplemented by qualitative interviews with staff in four early intervention teams to provide more detail on the culture of the services prior to the implementation of the trial (ECLIPSE Study 4). The data collection will run in parallel with the cognitive-remediation trial, from January 2016 to January 2019.
