Research summary
The study using qualitative methodology would explore problems with eating and diet in young people with a diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). Young people with CFS might also have significant gastro-intestinal symptoms such as nausea, abdominal pain and bloating and also experience or instigate dietary change in response to these. There was currently no guidance available on how to manage these children.
In order to establish whether there were distinct groups, or if there were a variety of co-morbid eating difficulties, the study team would recruit young people to explore the presence of eating problems, gastro-intestinal symptoms and explore the patients perspective on why eating problems had developed. A semi-structured interview would be used to explore the areas of interest to the study.
