Research summary
The purpose of this study is to demonstrate whether donor cornea deturgescence prior to microkeratome cut (cutting of the graft) in DSAEK surgery can provide ultra-thin donor endothelial grafts. DSAEK is a widely used technique to replace the endothelium (the inner layer of the cornea) in patients in the UK and abroad. This technique has been adapted at Frimley Park Hospital and has been in use by Mr Thomas Poole for the last 2 years to give a thinner graft. Previous research has indicated that thinner grafts can result in better visual results. This study allows a more detailed assessment of thinner DSAEK grafts and its visual results over a twelve months period.
