Research summary
This study will look at cognitive functioning before and after one of two therapies for post-traumatic stress disorder. Patient's are assigned to eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing or trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy as normal clinical practice. Patients will be invited to complete some tasks and puzzles before treatment and again after 15 sessions which will help measure their problem solving, concentration, memory and language. This is a quantitative study which will utilise neuropsychological tests and questionnaires to gather data. Participants will be required to complete two sessions of neuropsychological testing (before and after 15 sessions of therapy) and two short questionnaires after every second session with their clinician. No funding is required for this study and participants will not be reimbursed for their participation. They will however, be given the opportunity to know the results of the study.
