  • Research summary

Trapeziectomy is a common operation for patients with pain at the base of thumb due to osteoarthritis of the cup and saucer joint. If splints and painkillers fail to improve the symptoms of pain then removal of the trapezium (bone at the base of the thumb) has been shown to improve these symptoms, and is the gold standard treatment for this condition. Questionnaires to investigate patient’s mood pre and post operatively will be performed along with questionnaires to assess patient’s hand function. The aim of this study is to investigate the link between the patients’ mood and their reported outcome following the operation.
