Research summary
The study will explore the patients' experience of preparing for day of surgery admission. The aim is to explore how patients access the pre-operative fasting information, their understanding of it and their fasting behaviour prior to their hospital admission.
This is to ensure that we are providing patients with enough education concerning this topic before surgery. This will facilitate optimisation of the patients' general health conditions prior to admission with the hope of reducing the risk of post operative complications where possible.
The study will consider any patient that is coming into hospital as a day of surgery admission for a major surgical procedure if they consent to become involved.
It will have no effect on the care they receive within the hospital.REC name
