Research summary
Research has found that people of South Asian origin living in the UK are less likely to have their mental disorder recognised and are least likely to be referred to specialist care, out of all the ethnic minority groups. Furthermore, community studies of South Asian people in the UK are underrepresented in the literature. This study will use an anonymous survey of a community sample of South Asian people to explore the levels of psychological distress among people of South Asian origin living in East London and Luton and their access to services. Participants will be recruited from GP surgeries, local places of worship and online and local Asian community networks.
