Research summary
We will shortly approach the ethics committee and ask for approval of a clinical trial ("DISCHARGE") in which we will compare coronary angiography (examination of the heart vessels by catheter) with CT angiography (imaging of the heart vessels using computed tomography). The present project is a pilot study of DISCHARGE. Here we aim to look into the quality of life of patients with chest pain and into the costs associated with coronary angiography and CT angiography. Both procedures are being routinely used in clinical practice. We will therefore approach patients who have been scheduled for one of these tests and send them a questionnaire. We will also take notes of the time it takes to perform the tests and what materials (e.g. cannulas, dressings etc.) are required. The data will be anonymised (all identifiers will be removed) and sent to the coordinator of the study in Berlin, Germany, where they will be put together with similar data from other countries in Europe.
